A trick-taking game for 3 to 7 players where the goal is to take exactly as many tricks as you bid. Also known as Oh Heck, Up and Down the River, and Contract Whist.
Rounds
The number of cards dealt changes every round. A common pattern is to start at 7 cards, go down one each round to 1, then back up to 7. Deal & Tally shows how many cards to deal each round.
Each round
- Deal the cards for this round and turn the next card face up. Its suit is trump.
- Starting left of the dealer, each player bids the exact number of tricks they expect to take.
- Many tables use the hook rule: the dealer bids last and can't make the bids add up to the number of cards, so someone has to miss.
- The player left of the dealer leads. Follow suit if you can. The highest trump wins the trick, or the highest card of the led suit if no trump was played.
Scoring
| Take exactly your bid | 10 + your bid |
| Miss your bid | 0 |
Some groups score 1 point per trick plus 10 for hitting your bid exactly. Pick your version in the game settings.
Winning
The highest score after the last round wins.
Entering scores
Enter each player's bid and the tricks they took. Deal & Tally checks the tricks add up to the cards dealt and scores each player.
